Environmental issues linked to North-South relations posing a challenge for Geopolitics

Economic globalization, global media flows and the Internet seem to make our traditional conception of geopolitics, in terms of political geography and international relations, no longer appropriate. The deepening impacts of globalization, especially within North-South relations, have undeniably changed our vision of geopolitics and have integrated the environment matter as an important issue linked to North-South relations. Why are environmental issues intimately linked to North-South relations? How do environmental issues challenge traditional conceptions of geopolitics?

This report addresses these questions by first refreshing memories by giving a clear and comprehensible definition of both "North-South Divide" and "Environmental issues" terms (1), then by analyzing the origin and emergence (2) of Environmental issues supported with up-to-date examples, (3) followed by the environmental consequences of North-south relations, and then (4) the impacts of environmental issues on global politics and economies
